Peter Reinharts Whole Grain Breads Challenge

What is the Peter Reinhart's Whole Grain Breads Challenge?  Simply put, I am going to try to bake my way through this entire book.

I have set no time limit to accomplish this for myself.  And no doubt I will be baking other breads along the way as I get distracted.  But the challenge is to try all of the breads in this book to see if there is anything that I can master and/or use regularly.

Other's have done this for Reinhart's previous book, The Bread Baker's Apprentice.  San Diego-based Nicole from the blog Pinch my Salt seems to have organized a lot of those bread-heads.  You can find links to all the other blogs from her site.

UPDATE: Jenni from the blog 'Something to Savor' has been successful at organizing a few people to work their way through this book.  Their schedule is strict, so I might not be able to follow them, especially since she has changed the order of the book so that the transitional breads are made first.  Still, I will try to keep up, and will try to post links there as I plod along by myself.

I have Reinhart's earlier book too, but I haven't responded to the BBA challenge (yet).  I do have a couple of wild yeast starters that I made following Reinhart's advice from The Bread Baker's Apprentice, which I will likely use for the sourdough or wild yeast starters of this Whole Grain Breads book.  I am more interested in whole grains, and whole foods, so this newer book makes more sense to me right now.

Unfortunately, I have yet to come across anyone else who is doing this 'Peter Reinhart's Whole Grain Breads Challenge'.  So far I seem to be alone in the wilderness.  If you are blogging it, send me an email at  cellardweller dot rob (at) gmail dot com  and I will be sure to add a link to your site.

When I found what I thought was the first error in the book, Google lead me to the bakers at 'Bread Technique', which seems to be a forum for others who are interested in Peter's recipes.  Many of these bakers are going to be among his recipe testers, and so may not always be making recipes from 'Whole Grain Breads'.  Peter has other books (more recent ones, in fact) that people are excited about too.  And he always seems to be working on the next book.

For now, here is a list of my blogs that have attempted a recipe from Whole Grain Breads.
